COVID: impact on students applying for university

Like most schools, our year 13 students were not in school from Monday 23 March 2019 until the end of the academic year. We did manage to deliver a small amount of face-to-face teaching at the end of the summer term; this amounted to three hours per subject taken. One 90 minute session preceded their progression exams, one followed them.

Progression exams were taken online in the students’ homes, and so were not necessarily as rigorous as our usual end of year 12 assessments. This means that the basis upon which we make our UCAS grade predictions is not as secure as in a usual year.

Finally, students were not able to access the usual supporting activities for their UCAS application in the summer term, meaning they began year 13 with an almost blank slate.
