Training to teach at Sackville School

Sackville School is committed to developing outstanding future teachers and we play a very active role in Initial Teacher Education (ITE). We work closely in partnership within our own Mid Sussex Federation of schools, Sussex and Brighton universities, BOSCO and GLF to provide high quality training placements for those seeking a career in teaching. We’re looking for people who have (or will have) a degree, have a passion for teaching and want to inspire young people to fulfil their potential.

Our experience in teacher training, our very strong exam results and Ofsted report enables us to support placement across a wide range of subjects leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) . There are three main routes to be considered:

  1. A University led PGCE route leading to QTS with Sackville leading one of your school placements. Applications are made to the University.
  2. A school-based route through our partners at GLF. All training is led by GLF partner schools leading to QTS with Sackville leading one of your school placements. This route does not award a PGCE. Applications are made to GLF.
  3. The School Direct route leading to QTS. The majority of your placement is at Sackville with input from Universities and partner schools dependent on course. Applications are made to BOSCO.

This can all be a little confusing so we urge you to come in and talk with us or arrange a virtual meeting. We are also very happy to arrange a school visit for you and to organise some lesson observations to help you make the right decision.  Please contact Steve Bush, Assistant Headteacher by email at sbush@sackvilleschool.org.uk.

We look forward to hearing from you and hope you are inspired to join us .
