Mrs Valentine writes:-

The main focus of our last half term for our year 13/14 students has been the completion of external exams and after that enjoying an end of term celebration. The sixth form team and other members of staff had a great time at the Prom at Salomons Tunbridge Wells, where our students were an absolute credit to the Sackville community. We shall miss this year group but we do wish them well both on results day, 18th August and beyond.

As I write this, our year 12 students are out on work experience placements. We have been very impressed by the placements students have procured and also grateful to friends and families of students who have helped secure placements. Students are placed at local companies, such as Rachel Davies at East Grinstead Bookshop. Mac Lloyd Skinner, our master chef at Gravetye Manor, Stalla Xystra at Portland Vets, Jazmine Mustard at Little Fair Care Home as well as a variety of placements at local schools and pre schools. Aspiring medics are completing medical placements and finding placement experiences in NHS venues. Sienna Mogg has a fascinating placement working at McIndoe Centre  Some students are further afield in London or even abroad – Freya Ohta is on a Spanish work placement, Mia Leahy is in Germany working at a language school near Cologne. We hope they all find this an excellent and enriching experience.

Many enrichment and development events have been on offer to the sixth form this half term. 34 students undertook a TEFL course (teaching English as a foreign language.) One student has already taken the initiative to set himself up online on LinkedIn to advertise his qualification, other students will be helping at Sackville summer school and others will be working throughout the school as mentors to EAL students next term.

Our sixth form, along with the rest of the school, are wholeheartedly embracing ongoing charity work for Ukraine Aid. I would like to share with you a brief message sent to our charity leaders from Ukraine Aid:

On behalf of local Ukrainian refugee families we would like to thank Sackville school for their generous donations and continued support for Ukrainian people in need. Your kindness and generosity is helping refugee women and their children from the war in Ukraine to feel safe and welcome in our local community and they are incredibly grateful. Huge gratitude for your donations and overwhelming support to Ukrainians when they need them most.

Congratulations to Maud Kendrick, Charlotte Carter Johnson, Tilly Vickery and Anna Lee who directed and organised a yr 9 drama performance. Their work was impressive. All of year 12 enjoyed a Futures Day for university, apprenticeship and job applications. Mr Coomber has prepared and delivered a drugs awareness seminar to yr 12 students, Economics, Art, Health and Social Care, Politics, Philosophy and Geography have all undertaken trips and visits as part of curriculum enrichment activities for their subjects. We thank the teachers for organising these, as well as the students for representing our school so well when out on visits. Our assembly programme goes from strength to strength with students engaging in assemblies on many topical issues with opportunities to follow these up in form time. We are committed in Sackville to student voices being heard. We held several committee meetings with students about our sixth form dress code and are pleased to advertise our slightly revised sixth form dress code for September. Click to read the details here.

I would like to end this year by thanking our sixth form staff team for all their help and support, and our student leadership team for all the invaluable help they have given and will continue to give next year.

With best wishes for a very pleasant summer.
