On this page you will find links to national and local organisations whose focus is on children’s wellbing and mental health.

Beat – the UK’s eating disorder charity. Founded in 1989 as the Eating Disorders Association, our mission is to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders. Eating disorders are serious mental illnesses that ruin and, too often, take lives.    

 

NSPCC – the UK’s leading children’s charity, preventing abuse and helping those affected to recover.

 

Bullying Support – please find below a couple of websites to help if you feel you are being bullied. It is also important to talk to someone at school, especially if that is where the bullying is happening.

Online Safety – just like you keep yourself safe in the physical (3D) world it is important to be safe online (2D world) too.

Safety Net Kids is a website that looks at keeping kids safe in all aspects of their lives.  

Thinkuknow is the education programme from NCA-CEOP, a UK organisation which protects children both online and offline.

Child Line – get help and advice about a wide range of issues, call us on 0800 1111, talk to a counsellor online, send Childline an email or post on the message boards.  

Reach Out Youth – café style sessions are specifically aimed at young people aged 13-19, experiencing emotional or mental health difficulties. Our groups bring young people together to reduce stigma, share stories, develop coping strategies and make friends. 

Cyberbullying – this form of bullying is harassment using technology. This includes trolling, mobbing, stalking, grooming or any form of abuse online.

Sussex Oakleafprovide a range of support services to people with mental health needs, those with a personality disorder and individuals at risk of homelessness.

FRANK – honest information about drugs.    

The Samaritans – they work to make sure there’s always someone there for anyone who needs someone.
Kooth – your online mental wellbeing community. Free, safe and anonymous support.  Youth Emotional Support (YES) – is a free service for young people aged 11-18 looking for support with their well-being.

Mind (West Sussex) – an independent local mental health charity working in West Sussex. We offer mental health services, along with associated training and support. We also work in communities to raise awareness and challenge stigma and discrimination. Our services support young people, adults, older adults, carers and families affected by mental health problems.

YMCA – Dialogue– has been delivering counselling and therapy to children and young people since 1994.

 

MeeToo – The MeeToo app allows you to talk anonymously about difficult things with other people of a similar age or experience. You can get help with your problems or use your experiences to help others. The app is a safe space where all posts and replies are checked before going live so there is no harassment, bullying or grooming.

Moodscope – aims to give you an increased awareness of your mood. By measuring your mood each day, you’ll gain an understanding of your baseline mood and how your mood is affected by external triggers. 

Young Minds – leading the fight for a future where all young minds are supported and empowered, whatever the challenges.

NHS Sussex have also created a guide which signposting to agencies who can help. One is for parents and carers and another for students.
